0. Summary
BrainExtension ONLY stores data that you explicitly request us to store, by clicking on the button in the extension popup for each page that you want to add.
The content of the pages that you choose to add is "vectorized" and stored in our
databases for querying with the OpenAI GPT API with relevant context. The only other data that
is stored is your email address for authentication purposes, your chat history and any files
that you upload through the extension, and anonymous usage analytics. If you are interested in
an on-premise or local-only solution, please contact us.

This privacy policy ("Policy") describes how the BrainExtension browser extension processes, stores, and protects user data that you provide. Please read this policy carefully to understand our practices regarding your personal data. By using the BrainExtension extension, you agree to this Policy.
2. Scope
This Policy applies to all information you provide while using the BrainExtension extension, the BrainExtension API, or the BrainExtension.ai website.
3. What Data We Collect and How We Use It
When you use the BrainExtension extension, you may provide certain information for processing and storage. This information is collected for the sole purpose of enabling you to use every aspect of the BrainExtension extension, as well as for the improvement of this tool.
If you choose to add a page to the BrainExtension extension, we store the URL of the page, as well as its contents visible at the moment you are adding it via the extension popup. If you upload a document via the extension's options page, the contents of the document are stored. The contents of these pages are only stored for the purpose of querying the OpenAI GPT API with relevant context for the questions you ask through the Chat interface. They are only accessible to your account, and are stored for the duration of your account's existence. If you delete your account, all of your data is deleted.
If you choose to add a page to the BrainExtension extension, we store the URL of the page, as well as its contents visible at the moment you are adding it via the extension popup.
There is no passive monitoring of your browsing history or activity, with the exception of anonymous usage analytics. Usage analytics only track which extension features are used. They do not track any content. This is done to improve the product and is not shared with any third parties except Google Analytics for processing.
4. Extension Permission Requests
For the BrainExtension extension to function adequately, we request the following permissions from your browser:
- 'storage': Enables storing and accessing user data on the browser. The only storage that is accessible is that of the extension itself. Not of any other extensions or web applications.
- 'tabs': Necessary for the extension to open new tabs, for example for opening the chat page.
- 'webNavigation': Necessary to know when a tab is loading a page, and what the URL is. The URL is ONLY stored when you specifically request this through the context menu or the popup.
In addition to these permissions, BrainExtension will also inject a content script to read a page's contents, but this is only activated each time you click the button in the extension popup to add the current tab's contents to your current "Brain".
5. How We Protect Your Data
It bears repeating that we do not store any data that you do not explicitly request us to store.
We use industry-standard security technologies and measures to protect your data from unauthorized access, use, alteration, illegal or accidental destruction, and accidental loss. Any data that you choose to store, share, or access is transmitted through Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology, which encrypts the data while it is being transmitted over the Internet.
6. GDPR Compliance
BrainExtension extension is committed to the principles inherent in the GDPR and particularly
to the concepts of privacy by design, right to erasure, data minimization, and transparent
communication. To the extent that we act as a data controller, we ensure that your personal
data is processed lawfully, fairly, and transparently without adversely affecting your rights.
